Student value

What you take away, described accurately

Every item below is written with its limits attached. A youth program that overstates what it can do for a student's future is not worth entering.

01

Charity partner certificate or recognition

How it works

The organizing team is seeking participation, fundraising and youth-participation recognition from the proposed charity partner. Final format to be confirmed.

Value and limits

A verifiable record of civic participation. It is never promoted as guaranteed admissions credit.

02

Volunteer and community involvement record

How it works

Merit College logs hours for youth service and volunteer tasks the student actually completes.

Value and limits

Competing is not itself volunteer hours. Whether hours count toward a diploma requirement such as OSSD is decided by the student’s own school or principal.

03

Competition awards

How it works

Middle School National Top 3, High School National Top 3, venue Top Speaker, Content and Delivery special awards.

Value and limits

A clear, verifiable competitive result.

04

Youth Voice Spirit & Community Impact Award

How it works

Judged separately in each division. Recognizes organizing, mobilizing, service and fundraising.

Value and limits

A recognition path for leadership and community impact that is independent of speech placement.

05

Youth Voice Club Founder or Chapter Lead

How it works

Any Grade 6–12 competitor may apply to start a club at their own school. Actual formation requires school approval; Grade 6–8 clubs should name a teacher advisor or staff support.

Value and limits

Becomes a sustained record of student leadership and community operation.

06

Judging feedback

How it works

A short score summary and judge comments are returned after the event.

Value and limits

Helps students keep improving content, structure and expression.

07

Media and event portfolio

How it works

Event photos, video and official recaps, released with parental authorization.

Value and limits

A personal growth record and activity portfolio.

What this program will not claim

The longer arc

One speech, or a year of leadership

The strongest outcome for a student is rarely the trophy. It is the club they founded, the listening sessions they ran, the peers they brought in, and the short brief they wrote summarizing what their school actually thinks.

That record is specific, dated, verifiable and theirs. It also happens to be exactly the kind of evidence the Spirit & Community Impact Award is built to recognize.
